Innovative watershed solutions

2105_edited.jpg

Alluvio is a Canadian environmental consulting firm that helps clients understand and manage water: when and where it is, how it will change, how it shapes the land, and how it supports the fish and ecosystems that depend on it. Building genuine, long-term relationships is at the core of how we work. We're committed to providing honest advice, innovative thinking, and solutions that hold up in the real world.

We work across the full range of sectors where water and land management intersect, including mining, forestry, and government, and have a strong practice supporting First Nations clients with water stewardship and capacity building initiatives. Whether the goal is meeting regulatory requirements, understanding watershed-scale risk, or building the data foundation needed to exercise rights and participate meaningfully in water governance, we bring trusted technical expertise and a commitment to developing strong relationships that clients can rely on.

Who We Are

Stefan Gronsdahl, M.Sc., P.Geo.

Principal Hydrologist, Founder

Stefan Gronsdahl is a Professional Geoscientist with over thirteen years of experience in hydrology and water resources consulting across western and northern Canada. He holds a Master of Science from the University of British Columbia, where his research focused on the effects of land use and forestry on low-flow hydrology and fish habitat. Stefan has a broad and applied technical background spanning hydrometric monitoring, instream flow studies, environmental flow needs assessment, hydrological modelling, geomorphology, and climate risk evaluation. Stefan is recognized as a technical specialist in low-flow hydrology and its relationship to aquatic ecosystems, and regularly works across disciplines alongside biologists, engineers, and resource managers to support complex water and fisheries challenges.

Stefan has developed a focused body of work supporting First Nations clients in monitoring programs and capacity building, water stewardship, fisheries management, and the assertion of Indigenous rights within water governance frameworks. More broadly, Stefan has supported First Nations clients across western Canada in watershed-scale hydrological assessments, climate and water supply studies, and the development of monitoring infrastructure and technical capacity to support community-led water governance.

We are committed to working on the land in ways that contribute to reconciliation. We are grateful for the knowledge and perspectives shared by our Indigenous partners, and we respect Indigenous knowledge as complementary to western science. We aim to support Indigenous peoples in participating in stewardship, environmental, and resource projects in ways that matter to them.
